Strawberries with Extenday Reflective Fabric
Effects on Yield
A study by C. J. Atkinson (East Malling Research, Kent) examined strawberries grown in polytunnels how manipulating strawberry numbers and PAR affects fruit productivity and health properties.
It was found that fruit number reduction had little impact, but increasing PAR using materials like Extenday Reflective Fabric and aluminized polythene was effective. These light-enhancing treatments significantly increased yield, fruit size, and the levels of beneficial compounds like ellagic and ascorbic acids (Vitamin C).
