Kiwifruit – Extenday Chill Nets
The Effects of Winter Chill on Kiwifruit
Kiwifruit growers in Northern New Zealand face challenges due to a lack of cold temperatures to achieve a sufficient winter chill. Without enough chill, vines can’t properly break their winter dormancy. This leads to erratic and poor bud break, resulting in fewer flowers, reduced fruit set, and ultimately lower yields. To overcome this, growers can use Extenday Chill Nets to enhance the natural winter chill. These nets shield the vines from the sun to help ensure the productivity and economic viability of their kiwifruit.
